  • Here’s what Jeff Prather had to say about our 2009 Les Origines. It was featured in the Ferry Place Wine Merchant Red Cellar Trio Wine Club and their wine bar, where it encountered TREMENDOUS success!

“We are very happy to bring this wine to our Red Cellar club members as it represents a full circle for us since it was produced by Helene, our former club manager, and her husband, Thomas.

They moved to Paso Robles and began this new chapter in their professional lives after Helene left Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and Thomas moved on from his position as associate winemaker at Rosenblum Cellars. It is aptly named, “The Origins,” since 2009 was their first vintage of production of their Rhone style blends and this wine is their star. It is comprised of 50% Syrah, 42% Grenache, and 8% Mourvedre, a variation on a typical blend from the Southern Rhone. Les Origines comprises the majority of the production and is the signature wine of the vintage. This wine is a combination of power and finesse, and could be said to be more European in style. By that, it exhibits the terroir of the vineyard with lovely ripe fruit up front, a touch of earthiness in the middle and a nice structured finish with ripe tannins and lovely texture. The aim was to reproduce a California wine that is faithful to the Southern Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape. This is a remarkable first effort. Only 300 cases produced.”

If you are in San Francisco, go have a glass of wine or a full tasting at the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant wine bar, in the beautiful Ferry Building. In the meantime visit www.fpwm.com for intelligent insight about wine drinking!

    Cheers,
